Cable Insulation

I'm executing a project that applies both Australian Standard and IEC Standard.

The problem is with the cable insulation, the client wants V75 cable insulation (AS Standard), while in the market of our country, we only have V70 cable insulation (IEC Standard). With IEC standard, the next insulation level is V105, and the price is rocketing.

Is there a formula for cable insulation that will prove with a certain continuous nominal current, we need only V70 insulation?

How about importing some V75-insulated cable, along with showing that it meets or exceeds the V70 standard?

Estimated Insulation Resistance of a cable:
IR = K log (D/d)
K = specific insulation resistance in megohs - 1000 feet at 60 Deg. F (K = 2000 for PVC; 50,000 for EPR; 100,000 for XLP)
D = diameter over insulation
d = diameter under insulation
IR = insulation resistance in megohms - 1000 feet. Note that IR is inversely proportional to the cable length. So don't forget to divide the calculated IR for 1000 ft. by your Cable Length (L) then multiplied by 1000.
Be advised that in the real world, the measured IR may not be anywhere close to the calculated IR due to extraneous influences such as humidity, temperature, dirt, etc.

Thanks for the response,

but the formula is used to get the value of insulation resistance.

The V70 is related to the 70 deg C of insulation. How do I know the final temperature of cable's conductor when it's being loaded to the rated ampacity?

There are provisions in AS/3000 (Australian Wiring Rules) and AS/3350 (Electrical Appliances) that may allow for deviation from the V75 requirement.

However, you will find that the approval process will not be worth the time and effort.

Much better an cheaper to import the required wiring\cabling at V75 and build a better, safer product.

The difference between the IEC and AS standards are due to the harsher environment and higher ambient temps found in Australia during the summer.
