Nope. It's the square root function in a differential pressure transmitter that is in the spotlight. Differential pressure across an orifice is so 1973...

The amount of differential pressure (DP) generated by an orifice or venturi is proportional to the square of the fluid flow rate. 2x flow results in 4x DP ; 3x flow results in 9x DP. In order to "linearize" this pressure measurement and get a signal representing the flow rate, you must square-root that pressure measurement.
