PLCC and OP_GW Communication

01/18/2012 4:23 AM

Hi,

Regarding PLCC and Optical fiber ground wire communication through transmission lines, I have read that PLCC provides single channel communication while optical fiber provides multi channel as well........and bandwith provided by optical fiber is much larger. Apart from the fact that optical - fiber is much costly.........are there any other advantages for power line communication system?

Regards,

sks

The main advantages are complete immunity to electrical interference and the ability to put potentially millions of channels of information down one fibre.

(Q1) one channel means ' a single wave of particular wavelength transmission' through an single optical fibre??

(Q2) Also, modular and demodulator are used for analog transmission and multiplexer and demultiplexer are used for digital transmisison??

(Q3) Amplitude modulation and frequency modulation are used for analog transmission. What type of digital modulaiton used for digital transmission??

Go to the Wikipedia articles on optical fibre and start there [Wikipedia is down today].

GA Slack, if the OP has ANY inverters it's double advantage

That is true for optical transmissiion but is not what the OP asked mate.

OP wanted to know what advantages powerline carrier communications has over a discrete fibre route apart from the cost saving of not having to run the fibre.

SSB -Single Sideband Propagation(broadcasting) DSB- Double Sideband Propagation(communication) Study about bandwith !

thanks anonymous........

i know that fibre optic has a much higher bandwidth than PLCC. I am asking this question to know if communication between hydropower plant and substation can also be done through fibre optic. I found in my studies that though optic fibre has been used in SCADA and OP-GW in an already built hydropower plant of my study, it is not used for hydropower plant to substation communication. For this communication, still PLCC is used - for the powerplant which used optical fibre for SCADA and OP-GW. Why this? Can't optical fibre be used there as well?

If fibre cable can be of safe instlallation on that site , vey well - could be used for monitering . Propagation delay , cable resistance at times - we may consider for Quick reaction .
