Why the short circuit calculation is required? And when its required?

With regards to Arc Flash PPEs, short current circuit calculations are required to determine the potential striking distance of an arc during a short circuit and it's impact on a person at a certain distance. You may look up Arc Flash Practical Application IEEE 1584 Standards.

Remember...Short Circuit Currents KILL in split seconds....if not protected by correct protection divice and you not being protected with arc flash PPEs.

Arc flash hazard & electrical safety training is based on requirements by OSHA and NFPA 70E standards for worker safety protection. An Arc Flash is an electrical explosion due to a fault condition or short circuit when either a phase to ground or phase to phase conductor is connected and current flows through the air.
