Voltage drop is related to current. Without an idea about your current, no estimations possible. S.M.

AS SM said you need the amperage to make the calculations. Go here and click on voltage drop. You can enter your information. This is a great site.

I have a novel idea for you....

Check your local installation standards and codes!!

Every country has a set of standards and\or code which you must comply with.

You have not mentioned what the allowable voltage drop is, which the standards will tell you.

You have not mentioned the required or expected current that will be supported by this cable, so even the codes or regulations in your part of the world cant help you.

Some one has directed you to a great site, but be aware, that it may not be suitable for your part of the world, as ambient temperature, mounting method and enclosures and ducting will all impact the final outcome.

Please either get a qualified engineer or technician to work this out for you..

Although this looks like part of a homework question, so you may want to go back to you books too.

Regards,
Sapper

sprabakar22,

Check PWSlack's post as it identifies the BS standard that I suspect India uses, the appropriate standards in Australia are AS\NZ 3000 (Wiring Rules) and AS\NZ 3008 (Cable Selection Guide).

If you are not in India, you will have to look up the standards and local codes for your location. They are all slightly different due to local conditions.

What is acceptable in Canada where the temperature is very low, will not be acceptable in India where the temperature is very high.

SAI Global can supply the documentation (at a cost) or other standards companies.

Your local authorities may also have additional requirements beyond the standards and these must be complied with as well.

Do you homework and research what is appropriate to Your area and buy the standards.

Better still get someone who is qualified to do the work for you.

Regards,

Sapper

As long as you want it to be, if you can provide big enough cross sectional area of copper.

PWSlack,

My dumb question for the day...

Is BS 7671 the standard used in India?

Us colonials down here created our own, just wondering if India had there own or used BS 7671??

Thanks & Regards,
Sapper
