Maybe, but not very much.

The best bet for this would be to cut down the tree and burn it in a boiler, which in turn drives a steam turbine. However, this would lead to deforestation problems.

Okay, one could hang some PV arrays on the tree.

This is not new....

"By stacking one electrode into a big maple leaf, and another in the ground, the tree generated a tiny stream of electricity. The amount of energy generated by this tree is very less a few 100 mili Volts , but this energy is insufficient to even light a bulb, so the scientists built a custom made Voltage boost converter using nanotechnology that stores input voltages of as little as 20 mV (20 thousandths of a volt) and produces 1.1 volts

Application in Future: This energy is enough to run low-power sensors...

Yes, but it sucks the life-force from the tree.

If the desire is to generate electricity from Flora, stick to potatoes and lemons. At least they are already dead.

I've been thinking about this....would it be possible to power house lighting (using LEDs obviously) from / by the houseplants?

Should I build my house around several trees to provide power for low voltage items?

I think you will need all of Sherwood Forest to do that.

What power level is in mind? Micro/milli/kilo/giga watts?

Do a search on "Piezo electric tree" and you will find a lot of information on ideas in the works to create tree-like structures with piezo electric cells in the "leaves" that will each create small amounts of electricity, but the aggregate total will (in theory) be useful. No discussion of the cost though, this is pretty much an engineer's pipe dream at this point.

From trees - No. But you can use Current bushes for dc power. You just need to connect a red currant bush to a black currant bush and juice will flow between them.
