Compaction of Mineral Wool Insulation Material

02/14/2012 11:42 PM

Dear All,

Can anyone propose the best methodology for compacting the debris of mineral wool insulation materials inside the burrow pit to accommodate more space.

Regards

Earnest.

You MUST first explain and describe what a "burrow pit" is, and the REASON you want to get more space.

What is the current volume of this "burrow pit"?

What is the industry/application? No one will have a clue unless you give some context.

Like soooo many posters here, you cannot grasp the idea that a problem cannot be solved unless it is defined properly (that means details, man, details).

With as much detail as you have given you might have posted the question "How can I build a machine?"

Wet it and squeeze it.

Idea is right and what we thought about , but will it not be an environmental contamination?

Are you asking for advice regarding the disposal by burial of a biopersistent material?

Would you please tell us what contaminants are contained in the fiber.

Leave it uncovered and just let the wind blow it away and into your neighbour's property.

Why don't you just sell, and recycle it--Good insulation, and great sound absorbing properties--People actually pay money, and need this stuff for new projects..Mac

Refer to #9 and let the scavengers take care of it.

Then let it be upwind of YOUR property, and handle the scavengers as they approach you, and yours...Better to put it on the market, IMHO...

Does OP actually have a problem or is this hypothetical?

The weight of any soil cover and the dynamic action of heavy earth forming equipment on it would surely compact it. Wouldn't it?

some items seem to defy a good burying eg tyres - the ground seems to have this habit of pushing them out of their buried state.

Is this "mineral wool insulation material" asbestos, fiberglass or what?

Is this Borrow pit used for garbage disposal?

Is it going to become a ponding basin?

It is going to have some negative environmental impact?

Answering questions with no reference is very difficult.

How much material is there to compact. Is it flame retardant? How deep it the borrow? Do you have access to one of the spiked rollers used by most garbage disposal companies? It sounds like, and I am not trying to abuse you, you have bitten off more than you can chew.

I am beginning to think that the EPA might be interested in your project. Watch out for the guy who approaches you and says "I'm from the government and I am here to help you".

Why is recycling not an option? Just asking--Is it polluted? Contaminated? A small amount? A large amount? Help us out here , or close out this thread. Too far away to be cost effective? People spend a lot of money for the real Rock wool stuff, for Acoustic damptning--High end movie theatre buffs etc..

Do you need a totally free solution that can be put into action with your existing plant or are you prepared to wear some capital expenditure?

There have been a few ideas thrown in here.

If you want to do it on the cheap then you have to take stock of the resources at your disposal. What implements and man power do you have now?

If you have money then how much are you prepared to spend?

What have you tried so far?
