Hi,

A good starting point is to know, what is going through the valve (water, air, oil,...) , how much (litres per minute ...), at what pressure (psi, bar,...) and the environment the valve is in(indoors, outside, explosive or corrosive, ...)

Best regards

John

Many control valve manufacturers have good catalog or online information about Cv (or Kv), which is used to determine flow rate and pressure drop.

Hi Khwaja,

This is a very complex task.

The easiest way - without going through all the thoery and understanding, is to firstly determine your limits of duty (ie the control valve needs to control between a maximum and minimum points). So you need to define the maximum flow/pressure duty points, and the minimum flow/pressure duty point.

Then simply use the manufacturer to determine suitable valve for accurate control between your system max/min duty points. They are the experts, and they also know the Cv of thier valves accurately.

Hope this helps,

Kind Regards,

Anthony
