Brazed Plate Evaporator

03/02/2012 12:35 PM

I had a brazed plate evaporator fail after only 4 1/2 years. Nominal 50 ton (McQuay) - r-22 ref with duel circuit. Warranty was 12 month. I have pricing from Alfa Laval & SWEP.

Alfa Laval was the original OEM supplier & I think it was mgf in China. I am a bit gun shy about the Alfa evap. Does anyone have any advise??

The SWEP evap would be built here in South Carolina.

What fluid was on the non-refrigerant side, and what condition?

4.5 years on a 12-month warranty doesn't necessarily seem so bad.

My advice would be to go with the people in South Carolina.

If the price is higher, it probably comes with better quality, better warranty, and better customer service.

Had you rather give your hard earned money to the Chinese economy, or America's economy?

SWEP has an excellent selection application with a sizable library of working fluids and conditions. Have used them many times with excellent results. Contact your SWEP representative for details. I can't imagine there would be a significant cost advantage between the suppliers for the BPHX alone.
