Touching what? Each other... you are kidding right?

If non-insulated conductors, can you say... flash of light... melted copper... smell of ozone... trip to the store for new wire and fuses... mad customers...

Do you mean phase to neutral? Most domestic homes only have a single phase supply into the distribution board. If you are referring to the internal wiring after the main isolator then it should have miniture circuit breakers rated accoding to the circuit involved. 6A lighting, 16A water heater, 32A ring main sockets, 45A cooker or medium shower. The main fuse that the electricity supplier fit can be 80A or 100A. If the supply cable it in trouble the get on to you area supplier imediately!! and do not touch. If the wires short out it will be VERY DANGEROUS. I know where a cable shorted out under a persons drive in the road I lived in and it took out a third of the roads supply for several days. DO NOT TAKE ANY RISKS.

Are you curious about what would happen? Yes, you might blow the fuse at the pole but right before that happens you may have a fireball in your face, burns, blindness or death. There is a lot of energy there and it can vaporize metal, start a fire, damage your hearing or kill you. The fuse at the pole may be set to serve several households. This is not something you want to experiment with.

I have accidently touched phase to neutral on a domestic light supply. There is a big bang, flash of light and a very stunned look on my face. The wires were no longer there and I looked like a muppet.

I wouldn't recommend this however, but it was quite spectacular.

On a serious note though, NEVER work with any electrical power unless you are sure you know what you are doing. What happened to me was because I was trying to take a shortcut to save time.

Intentionally creating an arc with this type of current is usually called "welding"....

Very true, I support your advice, as I share the same experience.

And don't worry about clean underwear. I guarantee it won't be if you do it.

ODDS ARE THAT THE WIRES WOULD WELD TOGETHER AND THE FUSE WOULD BLOW.

THE FUSES GOING INTO THE HIGH VOLTAGE SIDE OF THE TRANSFORMER ARE AROUND 100 AMPS AT 4-12 kV.

YOU WOULD NOT BE THE MOST POPULAR GUY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR QUITE A WHILE.
