Cathodic Protection

05/08/2007 12:10 PM

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had any good links on the subject of Cathodic Protection. I have the basics for sacrificial anode use but am more interested in the use of DC current which is used to protect steel structures. what sort of system layout is required, the sort of protection can be found from this configuration and where I can find a supplier of equipment to do this.

Many thanks

Tim

Basics in designs here

As far as suppliers it depends where you are located. you could contact the association with a link on the bottom of the page on first link(Wikipedia).

It would be worth doing some research on the Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway. Reportedly it was suffering a little from the effects of stray current paths affecting the steel reinforcement of the concrete support structures until various solutions were put in place; it uses DC electricity as the traction supply.

There are companies that specialize in this for pipeline applications.

Be careful though, cathodic protection may not be the only thing you require if you are transporting sulfur containing crude.....research ferrophilic bacteri or biosulphides

this is usually a good location to find info
