Night time itching.

05/08/2007 6:15 PM

Why is it that when I am wanting to settle down to sleep I start to itch and I find my face becomes very sensitive to touch. Do our nerves know we are trying to get to sleep and try to keep us awake? There are plenty of medicos out there do any of you know.

Are these symptoms new? how long do they last? does it happen every night, or only under certain circumstances? are there changes in the color of the skin while it itches? does it get dry? do you take any medicines? are there changes in your heart rate during these episodes? are you kidding?

Do our nerves know we are trying to get to sleep and try to keep us awake?

The brain has nerves, but nerves have no brain, therefore they cannot think, so we can asume they really don't care if we are awake or asleep.

What about getting an autopsy?

No I am not kidding, Until a fall asleep, No special circumstances, No skin changes. My heart rate is normal and steady. I have a fairly oily skin, I am of a fair complexion I have had this "condition" for many years it is not of any great concern only in as much as it is really annoying when trying to settle down.

Whatever you're dealing with is not normal. You should contact your medical practitioner and explain your symptoms.

Yes I was not seeking medical advice per se but just feeling the waters no doctor I have met have the faintest idea or interest in this situation. If I know that it is a common thing and it is a known condition then I would just ignore this. You now make me think I should worry about it. I came in as a guest so as to be anonymous at first just to gauge your reaction. Ok I am now going to take it more seriously. Thanks all.

Perhaps you haven't seen enough doctors.

Sometimes, if you catch them on a bad day, they'd shrug you off and think, "this guy's had this condition for years and he looks in the pink of health. Write him a prescription for vitamins and get rid of him."

There's also the fact that not all doctors know what every other doctor knows. One gets frustrated from hitting a blank wall with your condition while another gets a tingle from a memory of something with similar symptoms that he read years ago. He chases it down and comes up with the right diagnosis. Docs are humans too.

I've read about people who did their own research and found something along with the name of the doctor who is an expert. If you've exhausted your options in terms of doctors, maybe you could try doing it yourself. But, I repeat, only after you've exhausted all other options.

We can draw this to a close.

I'll have to agree with Chris. CR4 is not the place to consult about your health or possible sickness. Although there are several doctor-members here, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to diagnose over a forum. I'm not even going to hazard a guess about what might be afflicting you.

Go to a doctor and do it now!

You should consult a doctor.

You could however start by changing your sleeping partner or pillow or whatever you are using at bed time.

I had a simular thing once, my mum had changed the brand of washing powder! Itched abit in the day, but at night it was unbearable! best thing to do is have an allergy test done by a real doctor and then you can get back to some good old fashioned engineering stuff!

good luck with the Itch!

I would like to apologize for my reply, but I thought a member of the forum was just tickling our brains! .

I know this has been closed but as a husband of an allergic wife and the father of 2 allergic children i want to offer you some advice. Your symptoms remind me of my children.

Few doctors know much about allergic reactions and i was lucky to came across a doctor who were in the same position as myself.

A piece of advice from the Doctor was to find the allergen and avoid them at first. As soon as you are without symptoms for a while you should immunise the person by introducing controlled quantities.

To increase profits modern production methods boost production by adding "harmless" substances and procedures.

You should therefore first establish the reason and then the cure.

where to start?

Try the internet, Ask the medical council. Research institutions. Cosmetic manufacturers.
