The Value of CR4 With Feedback From a Discussion

06/20/2012 10:03 AM

Since there was some talk here on the value of CR4, CR4: Valuable Resource or Negative Space?

I thought it would be appropriate to give some Quantitative feed back to the CR4 Members.

I had hijacked part of a thread from Duckinthepond thread of Gasp....It's Clean Coal!....Again

Where a portion of the thread went off in a tangent. The hijacked thread had enough merit and substance to carry a thread on its own, but with the information that was on it already, I did not want to break off the continuity.

But I like to give an update. With a more detailed introduction that is on the link, I will not sustain from rehashing it. And get right to the point.

My company had excess charcoal, and we need to find a place for it.

After posting, I sent out a large amount of feelers to see what interest is out there, a large environmental company had contacted me, for which they have been working with a university for their research. And they put me in contact with one of the university's environmental professors.

Well, this professor has two graduate students that will develop an activation process as a summer project for their thesis for the manufacturing process for activating the charcoal for the environmental company.

Promise looks good, and thanks.

And CR4 is valuable!

I agree, CR4 is very valuable.

I constantly learn new information here.

Just as importantly, I get the equivalent of continuing education. Much of what I learned to become an engineer is long forgotten. CR4 helps me a great deal with the re-hashing of that "stored" knowledge.

Not to mention the member help I have gotten to some problems.

Crowdsourcing is an emerging trend, led by CR4 and NineSigma, for creative problem solving. Posting problems for solution suggestions from outside the usual sources can lead to profitable connections, as your story demonstrates. I like CR4 because of the learning as I read through the problems and responses.

I agree, never heard of ninesigma, which now I have to see.

But it is a time saver, of utilizing practical experiences to access if it can solve ones current problem.

I have read here also that some member would have like to know what became of some of the suggestions, just thought I posts.

But this was a good example of a thread going in one direction, that end up helping in another. Where it just came from tongue in cheek banter and being able to talk loosly and throw things out there.
