Leakage Rate Conversion

Hi ,

can anyone assist me with the conversion of kg/hr to scf/yr. We normally carry out Helium leak detection to scf/yr but client has given me an acceptable leak rate of 3.4kg/hr. I am wondering what this would be in scf/yr (standard cubic feet/year)

Hint: involve the density of He at the ambient conditions prevailing at the leakage point.

Hi kgomez,

I hope someone else can verify (or not) these figures.

3.4 kg/hr. = 1054.1687 scf/yr.

I have a conversion program that shows oz/hr. (UK Ounces / Hour) which I converted to kg/hr. (1 kg. = 35.27392 oz.)

It also shows Cubic Feet / Hour x 24 x 365 to get Cubic feet / Year.

Are you sure that's 3.4 kilograms/hr? That sounds like a lot, especially for a leak test. At any rate, my book states 0.165 kg/m3 (0.0103 lb/ft3, sg = 0.138) at 21.1 °C (70 °F) and 1 atm.

3.4 kg/hr / 0.165 kg/m3 * 24 hr/day * 365 day/yr / 0.02832 m3/ft3 = 6.37 x 106 cu ft/year (check my math)

Hi,

It seems that client want us to find leaks with Helium measured in Scf/yr and than want us to convert that to simillar leakage for LNG at kg/hr. Anybody know how to convert this.
