NFL Warp Drive!

09/18/2012 7:38 AM

Imagine a starship the shape of a National Football League football - laces included - with a basketball hoop around it and you have what may be the most plausible warp drive system.

Here is the link to the story.

I just hope the inside of the starship will not smell like the inside of a locker room.

Thanks for the link AH.

From the story:

"space-time to warp around the starship, creating a region of contracted space in front of it and expanded space behind"

Which sounds eerily familiar to "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner":

First Voice

But why drives on that ship so fast,
Without or wave or wind?

Second Voice

The air is cut away before,
And closes from behind.

And we can power it with the Harlem Globetrotters!!

Is this the Coanda effect on a cosmic scale?? Interesting concept anyways.

It looks a bit like the Dyson Air Multiplier. I looked but there is no equivalent light speed word for Supersonic. How about, "The Super C Multiplier"

When I'm practicing mind control, instead of trying to move my car through will power, I will move the air from front to back instead, or maybe the earth so that there is always a downward slope!

For faster than c, how about "tachyonic" or "superluminal"?

[Edit: I see that tcmtech got there first.]

Seems like 'warp factor' would be an obvious choice. Just need to decide if the warp factor is linear or logarithmic.

That's where I was going with WFO. Warp Factor One.

Or, the other, more popular version from my dirt bike days, Wide Fu**ing Open.

The graphics is done. Now where do I get some of this exotic matter to build the machine?
