iPod Link Up With Different Note Book

11/11/2012 11:49 PM

My ipod Classic 160GB has a big collection of audio, video, pictures and have been made over the years. The notebook I used for this is not there any more. I have a new i5 Acer notebook, but when I connect it says it will delete everything stored and then syncrhonize. How to avoid deletion and use the same with my present notebook with same iPod?

Well if you still had access to the old computer, you could copy the playlist to the new computer using this guide from Apple.

But, if you don't have any access to that computer at all, no backup, nothing - well it can still be done, it's just a bit of a hassle. If you follow this detailed guide, you should be able to copy the data from your iPod to the new computer, and get it synced as usual again. Let us know if you have any trouble!

I'll have to try option 2 as well...my previous computer died (some caps dried and became short circuit killing other components) and I had the same problem since...I wanted to add new songs and it constantly told me it will delete all the songs I manually installed from my CD collection. I never bothered to connect it again...Will try this.

If an iPod can be connected to an external drive (USB for example), you should always make a second copy just in case of accidents......

Maybe the External USB drive can be used to transfer the data.

This sounds like a really bad OS for trying to erase everything, is it Win Vista, 7 or even 8 for example? It is really poor programming to put someone in such a position with no obvious way round it (assuming that I fully understood you!)

WinXP would not try and get rid of everything.....which is partly why I have not been impressed enough to buy anything newer. My next OS will be Linux.....which also should not have the problems you describe as far as I can tell......
