Your electromagnetic flow meter is made by Siemens. What is the model/type no? What does the installation instruction say about grounding? I suppose you are installing/commissioning this instrument. Have you sought support from Siemens?

Please visit https://eb.automation.siemens.com/goos/catalog/Pages/ProductData.aspx?language=en&nodeid=10061921&tree=CatalogTree&regionUrl=/#topAnch&activetab=product&

and download the manual. It gives all installation instructions, including methods for required grounding. How come you do not have a manual? Or you do not understand the grounding methods described there-in? Please revert back with the results.

OK, so read the manual and telephone the Siemens technical support line if anything is unclear.

Show the manual to your Manager, or make him speak to & confirm with Siemens. Read carefully, the entire manual. Highlight the text relating to grounding.

Many of these Siemens mag meters do not require separate earthling as they have earthling electrodes. If you see 3 electrodes in the tube then the one 90 degrees out from the other two is the earthling electrode.

If you only have two electrodes then you need an earthling ring and it is best to put it at the inlet side of the sensor.

If flow goes both ways then use two rings.

Hope this helped.

Cheers,

Eric
