Steam Turbine Rolling

12/02/2012 11:36 PM

During rolling of turbine if the HP expansions start increasing (HPT) what are various ways to control it?? considering ( its a cold rolling casing temp less than 150deg) tht all proper drains of turbine r open and inter layer heating is charged??

This subject is ideally the basis of a telephone call to the turbine manufacturer's technical helpline.

A natural wear in period perhaps?

What does the manufacturer say? No point us offering specialised suggestions here that could damage your turbine (whatever it is) without more information on your particular turbine.

When all else fails, contact the OEM after reading (carefully) the manual(s).

The thing to ask them is at what steam pressure on the boiler you should begin warming up the turbine. Too early (too low pressure), and you are looking at condensate impingement (my own belief), too high a pressure (and temperature) and you will heat up too rapidly, expand the metal in an uneven manner, and could very likely damage the unit.
