Capacitor Capacitance Checking

12/19/2012 4:52 AM

Dear sir

please help me to find the value of capacitance in micro farad from the given KVAR of the 3 phase capacitor

Regards

<sigh>

There has to be a manufacturer's name and telephone number on the casing somewhere? Where on earth is the User Manual that was supplied with it?

...and surely it has a serial number on it?

why are you questioning its farad rating/capacitance? if the out put isn't right have you checked the internal fuses?

Do a Google search on "convert KVAR to microfarad." It will give you many sites with an explanation and a simple formula to calculate your answer.

Here is an answer given by one of our member "msmad" on 4-4-2010 which was rated good answer.Go through this thread and you can get further knowledge from google search .

"In the power system, the capacitors are used for supplying the reactive power which is consumed by the reactive loads like motors. The unit of reactive power is kVAR.

If you know the capacitance value, and voltage and frequency of the system, here is how to find the kVAR:

(1) Find the capacitive reactance, Xc:

Xc = 1/(2 x PI x f x C) ohm

Where C = capacitance in micro-farads, f = frequency and PI = 3.14

(2) Find the kVAR rating of the capacitors:

kVAR = (Vn)2/(Xc x 1000)

Where, Vn = Voltage applied to the capacitor terminals

For the 3 phase system, the total kVAR rating is 3 times of this kVAR value.

The previous thread http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/54230 also will help.

- MS "

I think this may help you.

You can always go through on threads on similar questions in CR4 to get guidance.
