It would help if you gave us some context. Steam is used in many processes. You could even have a typographic error that should read boats or booth for boots. It might even be stream or seam line. It is also impossible to help when you only tell us what you do not understand.

Can you tell me what I'm thinking? How about now?

It is a short downward branch off a steam line that collects condensate that may have formed. The liquid water can be drained off by a steam trap or condensate drain, preventing it from being carried further along the steam line.

That sounds like the same idea; just different language that would be used around the world.

You may be able to compare the wording of specifications with details shown on drawings. That might help to clarify.

Assuming that you are in a process plant where the steam is contanimated and/or water is scarce, then the term "boot" is used interchangeably with "sump"; i.e., a device to collect the condensate released from steam-traps and/or valve stem leakage to prevent its loss or release to the environment.

hu dan,

go here and you will see two versions of a "Boot" for a Steam Line complete with suggested dimensions.

I hope this helps,

thanks, Mr. PennPiper. Your recommended drawings give me quite direct understanding about the concept of water boots, just the same facilities like condensate collection pot.
