Where to Find an Analog TV Tuner with Composite Out?

12/26/2012 2:54 PM

I am looking for an analogue tv tuner controlled using a dial that outputs composite video and operates in the uk tv range which includes 500 Mhz. Does such a device exist? It is very easy to get hold of 1.2 and 2.4 Ghz receivers like this.

Try tigerdirect.com, I typed in analog tv tuners and a lot came up. Looks like they are digital and analog, maybe one of them will fit your needs.

Not sure what you mean by "controlled using a dial.

A domestic VCR/DVR player has a UHF/VHF analogue tuner in it....

500MHz is at the bottom end of the UHF spectrum. All UK analogue TV signals are now switched off, with the freed-up ranges being offered as part of the 4G roll-out.

WHY?

I think that all you need is an old UK video recorder, which can receive and convert in both directions in the UHF Bands.......

I would expect that the tuning is probably done by a voltage, so you need to do some measuring before ripping the parts out.

No knowing why? precludes a full and accurate answer.....

Modern tuners in the pre-digital era were voltage tuned in 2 or 3 bands. Settop boxes converting DTV over-the-air signals to old TVs do the same, essentially, cheap.

I am needing it for a video transmitter I have created for 500 Mhz. I was thinking that I could remove the tuner from an old digital box that we have in the house and then maybe use that if I can find a pinout. Since the tuner module is designed to demodulate a QAM signal, it may not work for FM or AM video signals.

Now, that you say what it is for a VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) and mixer will do.

You want to make a demodulator (tuner/receiver) work as a modulator (transmitter)?

Post #4 would appear to be your best bet up to now considering your needs as it has both....and very cheap as you will find them being thrown out for DVD recorders.....some (older) DVD recorders also have both....
