Random Icons on Screen

02/08/2013 8:32 AM

My desktop is suddenly covered with icon boxes, with a Hexadecimal value as a name for the shortcut:example;FAP5E7A.tmp.The file contains zero bytes. If I delete them and reboot, they come right back.

Anyone know the cause of this?

Thanks in advance for all assistance.

Not sure if this will help.

A year ago or so, nearly every picture that was supposed to appear in the browser window would be a box filled with smaller boxes containing hex code like you described. My son asked if I'd changed the default font in the 'Tools' menu of Firefox. As it turned out, I had changed it inadvertently. He changed it to a standard font and that fixed the problem. Don't ask me why, but it did.

Tools/Options/Content/Advanced/Default Character Encoding.
