Firefighting Package Logic Control

03/07/2013 12:38 AM

Hi all,

We have a new project to install new Firefighting package in the tank yard. The standard supply firefighting package comes with NFPA 20 controller (for fire fighting pump). On the package skid, there are three pumps, several on-off valves, and other instrumentations for local package use. The Local control panel with PLC, local buttons and indication is not supplied by default. In case of fire, the package will have to follow a valve opening sequences depending of what type of fire happens in the tank yard. The distance from the package location to the control room is approximately 1.5 to 2 Km.

My question is what is the best option, between installing LCP inside package skid and takes all the statuses into the Control Room, or handle the logic of package operation within the Control Room (either in a dedicated ESD or F&G logic solver), and what is the underlying basis/standard of the judgement?

Thank you in advance.

The equipment has to determine the opening sequence for the valves depending on how it determines what type of fire, then? What happens, then, when the fire takes out the control system designed to fight it?

Why not use valves that open automatically when exposed to fires, and dispense with the PLC?

Hire an engineer who knows something about the equipment and requirements of fire fighting.

You might contact the skid supplier and see if they have someone on staff to help you.

These guys might know: National Fire Protection Association
