LG Washing Machines

03/15/2013 4:19 AM

G'Day Guys, I'm in the middle of a domestic crisis, in that our washing machine has broken down. It is an LG, model: WF-T655A top loader. The problem we have is during the spin cycle, it goes haywire with this tremendous racket. I think it is an out of balance problem. I've opened it up and everything appears in order, but it should cut out as soon as an out of balance condition occurs. I'm of the opinion that we have a crook out of balance switch/sensor. The question is, WHERE is it located....?? Any ideas lads..? Norm.

Another possibility is that the suspension arrangements around the drum are faulty. Many machines have springs, linkages and lumps of concrete in them to slug things and keep vibrations under control. Pulling the back off while it is disconnected from the mains and having a good wander around inside it with a torch/flashlight would be the first step. Who knows - the sensor's location might become apparent too.

Did you run this thing empty? Sometimes it is the internal loading that causes havok. Most of the time this happens when we wash big things that can soak up a lot of water. If it still rumbles when empty then something else is wrong.

Did you check the adjustable feet? Our biest sometimes runs off and I found that it hobbles away when the adjustment went down south. So keep it "upright" and level!

How old is the machine? Its not under warranty anymore is it? Changing the sensor might or might not do it given you even find it. Can you open the machine from the back? Mine does not at all. I once had to fix the rubber seal for mine which is a front loader. I was lucky because I clould turn the rubber around without dismantling everything. The hole is still there but above the water level.

Hopefully you get your fixed too.

Good luck (I never had that with LG)

Check the drain pump and filers first.
I know it sounds daft, but if the water isn't getting pumped out you can get out of balance probs.
Last fault we had on ours was it wouldn't spin up to fast... that was because it wasn't pumping away the water. Pump was burned out. New pump (relatively cheap) fixed it.

Also check the level of the machine.

But the snubber system may have a linkage via cable or other metal rod type mechanism that has shaken loose.

I've checked out the four spring loaded suspension rods, doesn't appear to be any probs there. The machine would probably be about12years old.

Did you try removing the clothes and putting them back, packing them as symmetrically as possible?

Also possible a suspension spring etc has detached.

Are there dampers which may not be performing their job?

I had that issue, where the machine would dance around the room until it shook another bit off. The repair man would change any broken component (under warranty, but still a call-out charge), but not the dampers!

I now buy Miele machines, which use iron castings for drum support - they operate quietly regardless of load and will try 20ish times to even out the balance before quietly admitting defeat (about twice in 10 years).

1) Check the water drain pump as suggested by the CAT.

2) Normally, the spin cycle goes through a sequence of several short bursts and slow speeds while pumping the water out, in order to spread the load evenly around the drum. Then the final high speed spin. If this sequence is not being performed, then the sequencer (or Programmer) is faulty. Also, if the power goes off while the sequence is starting to spin fast, then re-established, you will have the same problem!
