Elbow Bend Radius for Coal Pipe

03/22/2013 7:15 AM

Dear All,

Presently we are using 1.5 D elbows in coal pipe routing. As we all know that 1 D Elbow will have more pressure drop than compared to 1.5D. Hence 1D elbow will not be used in pipe routing.

In coal pipe we are using Orifice to kill the pressue in other pipes and match the pressure to shortest length pipe as per layout.

My doubt is when we are using orifice to match the pressure why cant we use 1D and match the same pressue in other pipes. Primary air fan pressure can be slightly increased in required to match the required pressure if required.

Please clarify my doubt.

Regards,

Rakesh Reddy

I see your point, which might be justifiable. However, there may be other reasons such as fluid impingement, which is less with longer radius elbows. If you are allowed to use 1D ells, you could still keep 1.5D ells in whichever pipeline has the least pressure drop to spare. This will save some energy in whatever pump/fan feeds the pipe.
