Are There Twinkies Back on Your Horizon?

04/15/2013 9:58 AM

Certainly looks that way.

Not saying it'll be healthy, but it's going to be interesting how it's going to be structured considering the losses Hostess took in manufacturing on its last gasp for restructuring.

I'm sure restarting, it will use the same facilities and equipment. One thing, since it did go into bankruptcy, allot of contracts (labor) will have to start from scratch. It's going to be interesting if anything was learn from this on both sides.

The link is an interesting read, but really has no specifics.

Not healthy? As with anything, it's a question of moderation. I suppose any more than a few cases of Twinkies per month might be too much.

People have to remember, its a treat, not a meal. I recall as a kid, going to town shopping (usually Christmas Shopping or a special occasion), when we stopped at McDonald's, That was a treat.

Times changed.....

But I am happy to hear that these products will soon return to the shelf....... at a grocer near you.

I was pleasnatly surprised last Friday to see "Dreamies" under the brand "TASTYKAKES" and distributed by Tasty Baking Compaqny of Philadelphia, PA, USA on the shelf of a local store here in Ohio. I picked up a package and brought them to my office with my coffee and enjoyed the treat. I must admit, the "Dreamies" were not of the quality of the Hostess Twinkies. The holes formed by the bubbles in the batter were larger which gave a "grainy" texture to the cake. But, given my craving for Twinkies, it was a welcome respite from the absence of those angel food delights.

Interesting on the history of the Twinkie.

Its creamy vanilla filling was originally banana, but due to the rationing of bananas it was changed to vanilla...... You would think vanilla was rationed also, but at that time artificial vanilla I believe was already developed domestically.

Actually, I like the vanilla. They (Hostess Twinkies) put out some strawberry-cream-filled cakes a couple of times. Just seasonal or special, I don't know why. They had a chocolate Twinkie and a "low fat" Twinkie , too. They also put out some packages with three cakes instead of two. I was in heaven at those times. I love Twinkies! Someone will start making them again with the opriginal recipe. I hope. Those "Dreamies" I mentioned before are $1.69 - US per package of two. Rather pricey, but what are you going to do? Ignore your stomach? Not I.
