Exothermic Reaction Between PLS (Copper Leach) and Sulphuric Acid

04/27/2013 7:26 PM

Hi all, it is possible to find the maximum temperaure that a mixture of PLS (copper leach, pregnant leach solution) and sulphuric acid could reach?

All info is well known, such as flow and acid %

Any clue or bibliography will help so much!

not there, but in Graph 2 from this document http://www.prevor.com/EN/sante/RisqueChimique/diphoterine/publications/media/Acide_sulfur_Ang_BD.pdf , a temperature graph for a water/acid micture is showed

Note: water/acid micturation is cause for alarm. See your doctor.

Maybe here?

Chemical Reaction Equations

Maybe not, I really didn't mean to post this one till I had looked at it more closely.

Might be something here:

Sounds to me that you would need to know: the enthalpy change for the reaction, the equilibrium constant for the reaction, the specific heats for all the reactants, the flow rates, the heat losses, initial temperatures and ....... Would suggest far easier to measure it!

The maximum temperature would be the boiling temperature of the liquids present, until such time as the liquids have boiled away. If the reaction stops as a result of the liquid boiling away, then the temperature will then approach ambient. If the reaction continues, then another estimate becomes due on the basis of what is left to continue the reaction.

If in doubt, consult a qualified Chemical Engineer.
