Fabric Softener

04/28/2013 11:43 PM

We are commerializing a range of toxic free cleaning products

Does anybody know the active ingredients in:

1. Fabric Softener

2. Ironing Aid (in Australia it's called Fabulon, in America I think it's called Febreeze)

The ingredients need to be non toxic, free of parabens, sulphites etc

The "active ingredients" are probably highly guarded secrets.

If not they may be available on the internet. Have you searched?

We've already played your silly game once, and now that you have confirmed that you are a commercial operation, I'm not inclined to do your work for you.

We already established the way to make fabric softener, kramarat gave you the link.

Yes, indeed. Existing manufacturers of these products know the active ingredients.

Also, the active ingredients of the to-be-commercialised product(s) need to be displayed on the container(s) in which it/they are to be sold!

What does 'toxic free' mean? Almost anything can be toxic at some dosage level.

And toxic to whom or what? Something harmless to me can be deadly to someone else (like peanuts). Likewise things usually harmless to humans (chocolate, aspirin) can be toxic to pets.

And in addition, the EPA here in the US keeps changing the levels of what is considered toxic. There are substances that were once considered 'safe' at x ppm that are now not consider safe unless the amount is under 1 percent of x ppm.

Since you seem unfamiliar with the composition of fabric softener and ironing aids, are you certain that they are not already free of toxic materials? (See 1st question above.)

Side note - Febreze is an air freshener. I don't iron, so I have no idea what ironing product you are asking about.

And by the way I think the phrase you want is 'composition of' not 'active ingredients in'. 'Active ingredients in' is usually a term used for medicines. Well, at least here in the US. Perhaps that phrase is ok in Oz.

Quite! According to urban legend, the LD50 for water in humans is around 17 gallons/50 litres. One can, of course, drown in rather less.

If you are COMMERCIALIZING your 'toxin free' products; that means you already have them created but have not yet fine tuned for full production, or that you have them created but have no outlet(vendors) set up. If you are still wondering what everyone else is doing then you are probably not anything like ready to commercialize.

since you are already known around here, I just want to add for the viewing public here this is really a question for your marketing deptartment. In fact maybe that is what you are really fishing for in the first place - some quotable "scientific words" which the ad people will bastardize into meaningless gobbly-goop. My hint was your "toxic free" code words, which are in themselves meaningless. Both legally and morally. DDT itself was in fact toxic, but not to humans or animals in any real sense, but the wacko environmentalists managed to misinform more quickly and millions died as a result. I don't blame you for "commerciallizing toxic free" anything. I even don't blame you for selling an inferior product that does not work to the same wacked environmentalists who will buy your garbage. They'll buy anything that says it is "safe or non-toxic"...lol

My cousin copied this from the internet, so it must be true! Maybe from FaceBook?

*** Homemade Febreze... ***

What you'll need:
1/8 Cup of fabric softener (I used Downy April Fresh)
2 tablespoons Baking Soda
Hot tap water
Spray bottle (I used my empty 27 oz. Febreze bottle)

Preparation:
Using a funnel, pour fabric softener and baking soda into your spray bottle. Fill spray bottle with hot tap water and shake well. Don't forget to twist the nozzle over to the LOCK position if you're using a Febreze bottle, or you might fall on your hiney. Now go spray every fabric surface in your house and take a nap on your very comfortable and now un-stinky couch. :)

Store-bought Febreze: $5.59
Homemade Febreze: $0.15
Total Savings: $5.44 OR 97.3%!

More fun stuff>> http://bit.ly/Motivate-Me
So why should we buy your stuff?

Mrs. N. said thanks for the recipe. Teenagers and a dog call for both industrial strength odor cutting power and the capability cut odors, so this mix is ideal because we also get the added invaluable effect of cutting teenager and dog odors.

There are many companies that utilize isothiazolins as a bacteriostat in their products. In the water treatment industry these are serious pesticides with EPA registry numbers on the labels. Incidental skin contact with the concentrated "iso" will cause sensitization to further exposure with organ damage (i.e. liver and kidneys).

So, yes, all these products contain "tetramethyl death".

The OP is basically engaging in industrial espionage, and trying to get all of us to participate in it. Shame on you!

Amway has been selling environmentally safe fabric softener and detergents and soaps and general purpose cleaners for years. They have even received awards for it. Even the packaging is biodegradable.
