For All Who Gave the Ultimate Sacrifice

This is definitely in the spirit of today.

a pic of the bracelet I've worn daily for years. it says, "never forget those that gave everything yesterday so that you could enjoy freedom today" I always think of all the people that came before uswe are forever in their debt!

We have something similar in Oz called ANZAC day.

It's meaning has changed over the years and now honors those who gave their lives in war on BOTH sides. I attended a recent dawn service and the respect shown for former enemies was a sign of great maturity.

After all, the poor bastards who actually fight in the mud and blood and guts are usually acting honorably and doing the best they can to carry out their orders, whatever side they are on.

No country is always on the side of right, despite what their internal propaganda says.

In holland we have Remembrance of the Dead day on 4 May.

I could not be prouder of my own daughter for her service and her attitude. She's a PA National Guard Captain _{(soon to be Major).} She posted this on FaceBook...

"Took the kids to the local Memorial Day Service. I proudly wore my uniform, and made sure the kids understood why we were there. I also spoke up when a teenager was whining to his grandparents about how long the service was going be, telling him we were there because others who wore a uniform like me could not be. Maybe out of line but his grandparents thanked me for doing it...and I think my kids understood more than he did."

Thank your daughter for her service Tom. Yes, you have a right to be very proud of her!

I see by your posting that she is on the O-4 Promotion List!!! Congrats to her (and you)! When I left the USAR back in November of '91 I too was on that very same list. Long story.....and I should have stayed in, but that's water under the bridge now.

My only son is now serving in the USAF and is based at Dyess AFB in the Security Forces, primarily guarding the B-1B Lancer flight line. Next month he deploys to the massive airbase in Qatar the we built back in the 1990's. I worry he's in harm's way there, since it's only a short stone's throw across the Persian Gulf waters to Iran...

It is always fitting and proper to remember the real heroes. Those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the name of liberty.

Well...it looks like that degraded quickly....

Soldiers work for salary. Even if commit serious offences nobody punishes.Think about freedom fighters who without any financial benefits sacrifice happiness and suffer for their community/race/religion. Also think about persons live abroad without family to earn for their family members at home.

what part of religion/politics rule don't you understand?

And yes Soldiers get paid so what?

Soldiers as-well as freedom fighters have caused atrocities, some of them are called war heroes and some of them are called war criminals, history is written by the victors, deal with it.

So,Mahatma Ghandhi,Yasser Arafat,Nelson Mandela,Jinnah,Rahman etc are victors.
