Weldolet With Different Header Thickness

06/17/2013 7:01 AM

Hi,

I want to weld 5 nos. of 36" pipe with 2" weldolet of 8.74mm thickness.

Header pipe thickness is varying between 23 to 32 mm for 5 nos. of 36" pipe. Is it matter to weld 36" pipe of different thickness with 2" weldolet?

Could you hlp me?

Do you have an approved drawing issued for construction/manufacturing?If so,then you have to follow as per that drawing.

If there is no drawing,then you can consult your company's design department or your client's design department for the fabrication drawing.

If this work is only for your own homely purpose,then you can put weld olet on any run pipe irrespective of thickness.

The welder shall be a qualified pipe welder to execute this work.

I do not see any reason you cannot. Just check out the reinforcement requirements which I doubt it will be needed.

Regards;.

Nope! Just depends on operating pressure and the design.

Tell us, how did the Bonnyforge conversation go?

Remember, " i am in touch with Bonnyforge to find a solution as advised by you." from Weldolet Beyond MSS-SP-97 of Jan. 5th this year?

Maybe that didn't work, since it's really Bonney Forge.

Weldolets® are specified as to the range of pipe diameters (or flat surfaces) that they fit, along with a pressure class or rating. As far as I know, any necessary reinforcement is built into the Weldolet®, so long as welding instructions are followed. Any thicknesses above 1.5" (~38mm) may require post-weld heat treatment, but the OP's thickness range was less than that.

Maybe he's spent the last six months searching for "Bonnyforge" and hasn't had any time to read the instructions?

Aw , 'have a heart' lyn ... why did nobody at the previous thread (linked above) nor here offer the poor fellow a link-to Bonney_Forge (<<) ...? {how-hard-could-it-be?}

Might even be nice to add a link to a bit-of-history on the outfit. We ALL know how 'google-weak' most characters are, who begin their searches here. {don't we?}

And if we continue to do their work for them, what will that accomplish? We'll have a group of EVEN MORE HELPLESS babies who can't find their own butt with both hands.

hi,

i think, no real issues. just follow ASME B16.25 recommendation figure 1 envelope for welding the butt weld fittings and that should be OK for all thicknesses in that given range. make sure the pipe and unlisted fitting (weldolet) are rated for the application with a design calculation as per any piping code.

ciao,

ashbandy
