How Can I Identify a Webcam and Its Software?

Try uninstalling the last USB device that you added, reboot your PC and then re-install the drivers for your camera or just connect it if it's plug and play, if it still doesn't work, buy a new one, 3 years of service is not too bad for the cheap stuff we can find these days.

It's not generally worth the hassle when one can purchase a replacement from major supermarkets for <£10GBP, and claim it back as a business expense!

Replace it, and take the dud one back to Maplin for a good moan at them on the next perigee.

I think I will take it back 2maplin because the one before also failed unexpectedly, just outside the warranty period, and I would have returned it had I not desposed the the receit.

Since then I learned most printers (even laptops like ASUS) do fail just outside their warranty expires, called PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE.

There's a russian programmer on youtube who felt compelled to write programes for different printers to unblock an 8pin chip in them.

Just after it tells you there are no drivers for the device. It usually ask if you want to search for drivers. Two choices on line or on your computer.

This is a Windows device driver error. As device drivers can be used anytime your computer is trying to use a hardware resource, it can be difficult to tell which process is causing the error. The driver is probably still on the computer it just needs to reinstall....search programs for item and install....or call them.....or get a new one....

SiSoft Sandra has a module that identifies all the hardware in a system. Drivers should be easy but go to the the manufacturers site if possible. Many independent driver sites are full of malicious code like virus, worms and trojan horses. Keep your security high and use a program like Sandboxie for added security. Is this a PC or a Mac? If it's a PC and you haven't made any important changes to your system recently you might try using a restore point which would still have the correct driver configured. But if it's a hardware malfunction, just grab a new cam and be done with it. Good luck.

TMI. You need to place the webcam on top of the computer, or some other place a little higher up. (this is a sick joke in case every one missed it, and yes I do have a sick sense of humor, I hope you have at least a sense of humor as well).
