Supershop

06/25/2013 5:49 PM

I own a Supershop that belonged to my father. One like it appeared in an ad in Popular Mechanics in 1950. I believe it to be a forerunner to the legendary Shop Smith. It is actually seven machines in one.........a 30" wood lathe, 8" tilting table saw, jig saw, 1/2 inch drill press with Jacobs chuck, grinder/buffer, disc sander, and drum sander. My Supershop is in good working order. I have searched on the vintage machines web site for further information. I know it was manufactured by Power Tools, Inc. in Beloit, Wisconsin and was priced at $79.95 (reg. $125) in the ad in 1950.

Can anyone give me an estimate as to what it is worth?

Sorry, the problem is, this tool tried to do everything, with too small a foot print. So it does nothing good. Two friends had the shop smith, and got rid of them for real wood working tools. You need a long infeed and outfeed on any table. But if you make miniature stuff this thing will work. Most small 10" table saws are junk for this same reason.

I agree...... The adage of "Jack of all trades, Master of none" comes to mind and can be applied here.

eBay can (usual disclaimer). Put it up and see what bids it attracts.

It is only worth what someone will pay. Try online sales see what highest bid is. You may have a nice surprise then again?????

Hi! I am not agree with some privious posters, they are right on some point but these machine are still in demand by many people. The user has to know that these are not design for production line but are an interresting alternative when space is limited. To enjoy it you have to be smarter than the machine you want to use.

I would like to see a picture of it.

Thanks'

Thank you, TrippleP, for your positive response to my question about the Supershop. Since my posting, I now have a person who is seriously interested in the machine for $250. I think I'll seriously take the money and run!

While I don't have any pictures of my machine, I've found some on the Vintage Machinery website. One of these is identical to mine.
