It is mentioned in Singapore plant/site drawings. Please explain, what is the difference between PSA north and Plant north.

PSA is the Port of Singapore Authority. Magnetic North moves around but civil authorities need fixed lines so they have a permanent reference line that is called PSA North.

Plant North (sometimes called Project North) is a line in a different, convenient, direction to make layout much easier. It is usually parallel to the center of the project, or to a building column line.

Thanks for the answer. I have seen plant north and magnet north both on the same drawing and slightly off from each other and we always took the plant north for our orientation and bench marking.

Once again, Thanks for the explanation.

Regards;

Is PSA north the same as true north, or just a bureaucratic convention?

I don't know. Historically, efforts were made to establish true north, monuments were placed, towns and cities built referenced these lines and monuments. Sometimes the surveying was faulty, but it is impractical to correct it. PSA North might or might not be the same as true north.

I have had more problems with elevation above mean water level than with north signs, we have three authorities in one area, and each had a different level, their own monuments and buildings built with reference to them

If it matters, a ship's grrocompass points to True North. That is because the mass below the pivots causes the axis of the gyro to precess until it is in line with the Earth's rotational axis.
