Turbine Governor Servomotor Problem

07/01/2013 12:56 AM

Hi,

I am facing a problem that there is sudden decrease in load when the hydrogenerator is working in more than half of load. The generation decreased from 4.1 MW to 300 kW in almost no time. Discharge is okay. What could be problem? We tried to fix it by running it in manual position and checking the servomotor displacement. We found it satistactory. What could be the cause?

More than likely a lack of knowledge on the part of the operators.

Have you contacted a factory service tech?

What have you tried so far?

Any trouble shooting?

Does it happen every time?? How many times has it happened?? Are there any new generator facilities coming on-line in the area?? Does it happen at a specific time?? Does it happen at exactly 4.1 MW every time??

Dear Friend,

It appears that the regulating valve seating has got dislodged from its position and blocking the flow. This is obvious when you have mentioned ".........and checking the servomotor displacement, We found it satistactory."

The movement/displacement of Servo Motor, does NOT reflect in the Flow Control/Regulation.

Pl. check this and post - how it was solved.

i have thought of this as a very effective place for solving problems. The problem was with linear displacement transducer. Repalcing it solved the problem.

Thx.

It can be due to multiple reasons. However probability of the following two is high.

1) If the machine has electro-hydraulic governor, some governor card might misbehave.

2) Droop setting is disturbed.
