Credit-to-all-previous-replies (esp. fixitorelse), and add:
Does common sense not dictate that certain parameters such as WHAT IT IS that you're needing to protect, and HOW HEAVY YOUR WALLET IS might come into play, in the equation...?
Really: "Can somebody please tell when to use paint like k-mass and jacket like darchem or bilco for fireproofing." Where is the question-mark (?)
Try studying a bit ... at LEAST enough to understand the vernacular of the topic you wish to address, in question fashion.
Generally-speaking, paints are for cosmetic purposes; protective coatings are used to prevent corrosion; linings protect articles in immersion service(s); intumescent coatings are generally used for "fire-proofing" (they don't "fireproof", but they reduce harm that would be inflicted by fire..."passive fire protection"). <see both links>
