What Does M8x80 Mean for a Screw?

What does M stand for?And what do the two numbers on either side of the cross mean?Thank you.

Hi Iwy,

This must rank amongst the most naive questions we've had in quite a while.

The 8 means 8mm Diameter (usually 1.25mm Pitch Metric Coarse) and the 80mm is the length (measured from under the head).

Are you sure of that? What about a flat head machine screw?

This is with the assumption that you are working with a flat head and not a V-8.

The M stands for metric.
