What kind of instruments are the air monitors? Do the air monitors have their own alarms?

Excel is a spreadsheet, it is not an air monitor. So, somehow the air monitoring data gets into Excel. How does the air monitoring data get into Excel? Does someone type it in?

Work on the angle of how to get the air monitoring data into both Excel and the PLC.

Your problem seems to be that of communication of data from the PC to the PLC which is 1 km away. Siemens has several solutions - you can set up your own radio communication or use the GSM service. Get hold of a Siemens guy in your area. He should be able to help you out.

Print the data on RS232 port connected to PLC to transmit data to PLC. If you have any other type port then use that driver to transmit data in the formats like TCIP / Scada / HART etc.

Why can't the PC generate the alarms? What will happen if the PC fails? Why reduce the reliability of a PLC based alarm system by putting a PC in series with critical data flow? Why does this air flow need to be alarmed? Will pneumatic equipment not work as well or will miners eventually suffocate? Getting any processor to retrieve data from another location (regardless of distance) is such a fundamental part of any programming training. The fact that you do not know how to do this makes me very worried about all of this alarm system.

This post seems very familiar ! Why were you not happy with our previous responses ??

I recall radiotelemetry being the solution of choice ?

A good place to start:

www.knowexcel.com/view/718937-spreadsheet-alarms.html

There is a great deal of help available on this subject you just need to do the research on the net and choose the method.

Hi SUHAS227,

ioLogix 2012, this will send you an email as an alarm, there are the GSM types too that will send you a sms. The cable for these can be run over a considerable distance too. This unit can store historical data and can be viewed in real time with an H.M.I. interface. Check out this link:

Look for VB embedded program in EXCEL. These programs can pick data from EXCEL variables and can transmit to the desired link to reach the PLC.

You can ask help from EXCEL programmer who knows a method to write embedded VB program.
