Zero; use something else instead.

What temperatures are on either side of the insulation?

Use a silica wool (brand name withheld) insulation material instead. Pay particular attention to the surface finish where personnel circulate.

The temperature difference is not high enough to warrant the use of asbestos when other materials can do a better job with less impact on nearby personnel.

Don't even bother thinking any farther about the use of asbestos. In the USA it is banned for many good reasons and for quite a while. Although the material may be available, it isn't worth the costs to remove it eventually. Case in point: Manville, NJ, was once the biggest asbestos processing site for Johns-Manville. For the past 50 years there has been many citizens who worked there die from asbestosis. Many of the families of the workers died from secondary exposures due to washing machines, work clothes left on family members clothes at the door, etc.

Another incident is now in India where ships are scrapped for the metal value. Now they are recognizing what damage and deaths the asbestos removals have caused the workers and their families.

Use a common material for the purpose you have outlined- Calcium Silicate. It is a white powder like substance which is supplied in a compressed form. Some available forms are sheets, bricks, pipe insulation, etc. Shaping it is usually done with a serrated kitchen knife or other common wood working tools (rip saw, cross-cut saw, hole saw, 12" or longer coarse power hack-saw blade, gasket punch, etc.).

It will be the best material for the use you have described. It has extensive use history and works well. Calculations for depth, etc. are readily available from suppliers, manuals, books, web sites, etc.

Good Luck, Old Salt

Because asbestos is such a hazardous substance, use something else and calculate the thickness of that instead.

<...using...>

Well, if it's already in use, just measure it.

<...want to know the thickness for insulation?...>

Not partucularly; the forum doesn't need to know.

The temperatures are not so high so rockwool can also be used as boilers/Eco/SH etc are also insulated by rockwool of different thickness at high temperatures (upon thermal calculations).

iff aesbestos is must due to any reason client demand or service demand.

for thickness calculation following data is required

What is shape of object to be insulated?

if cylindrical then attached file may work , if so then tell me i can email you in excel form.

Dimensions?

Temperaures ( Already Told)

Greetings

not easy to do in north america, the stuff is part of the past and its dust particles are known cancer causers.......try rock wool or any number of ceramic insulators

I would simply guess 30mm, with corrugated metal jacket, and just be done with it.
