Black Rubberized Line Going into Freezer has a Slight Drip

09/04/2013 12:17 PM

The black rubberized covering has come lose where it connects into the freezer. This has resulted in a slight drip (condensation?) Will reconnecting solve my problem and if so, what product should I use to reconnect.

Zip tie, or squeeze clamp of some type.

You should cut a piece of rubber insulation to fit into the opening, and glue the edges together....then wrap it with duct tape....the insulation must be airtight sealed....

Most likely will solve the condensation and drip. Think though you will have another problem. The insulation looks wet. It probably took awhile for the condensation to build up in the insulation to get it saturated enough to drip. Sealing it off wet makes it a poor insulator. It also will start to mold and mildew.

Needs to dry out before sealing it off.

Unless the line is a condensate drain line. Which is the source of the drip. In that case just push it back on the nipple and though the hole. Wipe the out side clean and dry. Seal it with some silicone sealant to hold it in place.

Its the line from the compressor to the freezer.

From the freezer (shown in picture) to the compressor the line was covered only only 1/2 of the way with rubberized insulation. This was the original configuration.

Yes and I've seen some that used the same port as a condensate drain. The hose ended where it would drip off in a evaporation pan. Compressor line came out and made a little elbow to drip any on it of too.

That type of insulation is also available in adhesive strips an inch or so wide. They can be spirally wrapped around the tube, which is the suction line from the evaporator to the compressor.

first....THANK YOU for including a photo! that's a drain line. , it looks in poor condition, I'd change it with a hose of similar diameter and a light tension clamp or even a tie.....it isn't pressurized

Are you sure? That looks like a tube passing through a small sleeve, and then into the insulation.

Fredski,

I'm not bustin your tennis balls.

I respect your answers. They are educated and mostly common sense.

However!

I beg to differ!

  1. Refrigeration companies will not insulate a drain pipe. $$$$$
  2. If it was a drain line, WHY is it inside the freezer?
  3. I guess I don't have a 3.

Oh well.
Go out and buy a length of self adhesive insulating foam extrusion or two then replace the complete run of insulation. It is cheaper than any other solution.

Is pushing one of these into the end of the pipe such a bad idea?
