Boiler Calculation

09/11/2013 1:39 PM

Hi,,grateful if any of my thread friends could share their knowledge.

1.meaning of boiler horsepower and how to calculate it.

2.meaning of MW for boiler and how to determine it?

3.Can anyone provide me example of calculating boiler efficiency using direct and indirect method?

Thank you in advance..

rosli-

You ask too much for a thread. Your best results would be to follow answer #1.

Even the greatest minds, of which I think some on this site are, could not explain these to you via this medium.

Good Luck, Old Salt

If you can get hold of this reference;

http://www.amazon.com/Combustion-Fossil-Power-Reference-Generation/dp/0960597409

or a copy of "Steam" previously published by Babcock & Wilcox it will give you a good grounding on these and plenty of related tech info on the power plant topics.

1.meaning of boiler horsepower and how to calculate it.

2.meaning of MW for boiler and how to determine it?

MW is mega watt, showing that how much power a boiler can produce,

e.g

if their is a boiler of 1.7 TPH saturated steam @ 10 bar, we will calculate that how much MW it can produce. This is done by mean of energy balance

3.Can anyone provide me example of calculating boiler efficiency using direct and indirect method?

Boiler efficiency: heat out/heat in x 100

Heat in is heat entering in boiler from any engine or waste heat, in both cases, component fraction is required either % volume or % mass to proceed further.

Heat out is the heat in steam in terms of enthalpy ,

One point to be carefully noted, while making calculation for heat output,

if their is any economizer after boiler drum, see heat out at eco outlet other boiler outlet.

Dear Mr.rosli.

1.meaning of boiler horsepower and how to calculate it.?

Answer: Our Professors have taught - The EQUIVALENT EVAPORATION of the Boiler comes in to picture for deriving Boiler H.P - which is an OLD STANDARD. Whatever may be the Pressure and Temp. of the Boiler the total heat added to generate steam is converted to equivalent evaporation at sea Level and Pressure to be taken as ONE ATMOSHERIC and Temp. is at 100 Deg.C or 212 Degree Farenheit. The equivalent evaporation can be calculated. 36500 Pounds of EQUIVALENT EVAPORATION/HOUR is ONE BOILER H.P. Now his standard is OBSELETE.

2.meaning of MW for boiler and how to determine it?

Answer: The Pressure of the Boiler/Steam, Temperature of Steam, Re-Heating of Steam (by with drawing steam from the Turbine to Boiler and re-heat it to a higher temp.) and Steam used for High Pressure Feed Water Heaters, for heating the Feed Water is to be known - from these details, precicisely calculate the HEAT DROP/Kg. of Steam which is converted to Power. For Sub-Critical Pressure and Steam Temp. below 545 Deg.C - the Thermo Dynamic Efficiency of the Turbine is 39% only and each KW will require 860 KCal. of HEAT DROP from the Steam.

Hence Steam Flow in Kg./Hr is known, Heat Drop/Kg. is known, multiply these values and devide by 860, you will get KWHrs. Devide this by 1000, you will get MW(Hr) Total Tonne of Steam/Total MW is your answer.

3.Can anyone provide me example of calculating boiler efficiency using direct and indirect method?

ANSWER: It is a lengthy procedure. I will post it by CR4 PERSONAL MESSGING. (OR) Refer BOILER TESTING CODE(s)
