I think that is directly tied to the looming economic crises Europe is facing with it's second recession this decade.

While there are signs that this is lifting, that process is likely to be slow and sustained and there is not assurance that Europe would not relapse.

It's not surprising auto sales are continuing to sag. We saw the same thing here.

In Australia, GM sales of the home grown larger sedans are down and Ford is pulling the 'manufacturing pin' in under 3 years, still auto sales in this part of the world are climbing with around a million units per year for a population around 22 million. (An aside, push bike sales are almost 2 million per year).

Volkswagen sales (of European supply) have dropped dramatically in the same market because of bad PR due to engineering recalls. See news item.

Maybe the immediate European problems are in 2 directions ... poor engineering and not building cars that people want to buy today.
