"What are most of the people missing when they asking total strangers about a topic for their thesis?" Might be one topic to go on with.

We all don't know anything about you and your study. How on Earth can we help you here?

Thats about as dumb as it gets!

Good luck!

Inspiration can be hard to find.

I just shut my eyes, tapped in some random letters to Google, and hit the 'Search' button. The result (top of the list) was an ebay site.

OK, it turns up a clothing seller, but all is not lost. Notice how the garments are displayed - some of them are 'wrinkled'. Exactly why do the garments tend to fold one way rather than the other ? Is blue the predominating colour, and if so why ? Notice the item marked as 'awesomw jeans' - what factors are involved in the way that each pair hang (this may have been covered, under another guise, by civil engineers etc). What mechanism led me from random letters to that website ?

I could go on with the above paragraph, but do you see the idea ? Do something completely random. Take the results and then use the same method to home in on a more specific topic.

Give us some more clues as to the area you are involved/interested in. The academic level will also help. Hitting the keyboard at random is as much use as the question.

What parts of civil engineering interest you?

If none, why are you studying civil engineering?

Silly Kittie! You give lots of credit that the Section was chosen by OP.

This aspiring, young indecisive person either wants to be a teacher, or an MBA.

I deduce this because, "those who can, do; Those who can't, teach".

They can't come up with any thesis subjects on their own, so they turn to a proven source of knowledge, total strangers, who know nothing about them, except that they seem to be totally helpless and deviod of any creativity, or initiative.

On the other hand, MBA'a demand that problems be solved with crasping with any clarity the gist of the problem at hand.

Sadly, study habits are non-existant in this individual as well as any information that might have helped someone give them advice, had they had the inclination to begin with.

A random selection, SINCE THE OP HAS FAILED TO GIVE ANY USEFUL INFORMATION:

A List of Thesis Topics | Reference.com Answers

How to choose a thesis topic | The Three Month Thesis

Thesis Statements and Topic Sentences

OP, don't be such a baby, do your own work!

How about the definition and etymology of the word "thesis"?

Maybe not, the word "thesis" has nothing to do with civil engineering or your skill set.

How about the assorted types of molecular bonding of the various constituents of concrete; from quarry, to kiln, wetting, curing and finally to degradation from all known mechanisms. Pay close attention to the mechanics of why aggregates added to the material change the mechanical properties of this ubiquitous material. Explain on a sub-atomic level why the safe compression loading of concrete is orders of magnitude greater than the tension loading. Explain why and how other materials used in conjunction with concrete balance these two load dimensions. Be sure to include X-ray powder diffraction studies of the compounds encountered in your thesis to support your conclusions.

That might be too much work for you at your grade level. How's this for the title of your thesis: "The Hammer, Friend or Foe".

Imagination, the ability to think for yourself, what is ones own interests.......... What the next generation of engineers may be missing ............. There's your thesis.

How about designing homes that can be built cheaply with recyclable products that last a long time but are modular in nature and can be put together by home owners that are really cheap to buy and strong enough to resist a hurricane.....like dome homes....or cheap methods of creating fresh drinking water in different environments....CO² mitigation method....Beach preservation methods...Green space design....Ways to reduce support structure for society without compromising quality or robustness...Uses for new materials being created....Design Moon colony or Martian city....Design underground transportation system with independent support system....Design better jail system....Go outside the box and kick it around some until you see something interesting from a new angle.....How about a crash proof car.....A method for mitigating the spread of disease in public areas....or hospitals...

There is a saying, "All roads lead to Rome."

Of course, this is not literally true. For your thesis, you could determine how many miles of roads (including tunnels) would need to be built to make this saying true.

A sad sad commentary on the current state of education.

Start with research of what exactly a thesis is and go from there. Seriously, I highly recommend that you get off your arse, followed by trotting off to your university library to conduct in-depth research, instead of sitting at a computer getting distracted by the Internet.

Have you even discussed this with your adviser?

ainiretz, people can be a bit harsh here (I'm as guilty as any).

Don't give up, come back with some more info. If not already there, you will find that a workplace can be just as harsh. Better to jump in here and find that explaining your question well can get some good answers. Maybe it won't, but have a go at re-wording the question. Ho harm in trying, eah ?
