High Voltage Electric Motor Modelling and Simulation

09/26/2013 12:05 AM

Hi All and thanks in advance

I wanted to know if anyone knows of a modelling/simulation software package to analyse operation and faults on high voltage electric motors. I wanted to be able to model characteristics of a motor (From known data) then apply a fault either in the motor or the supply and simulate what the effect of that fault would be in say other phases if one phase was shorted. Would like to be pointed in the right direction.

Thanks

Aurelio

A symmetrical components question!

If one phase were shorted, then the circuit protective device would operate, thereby disconnecting the supply and stopping the motor.

One doesn't need simulation software to predict that!

Donkey,

SPICE stands for "Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis", kind of useless for single line to ground faults in electric power systems... The other program is not ETAB, but ETAP, which is one of the programs that OP would have discovered through a simple Google search..

The right direction is red-yellow-blue. The counter-right direction is blue-yellow-red.

You could try Yellow-Red-Blue [if you like Kandinsky] or

see [for instance]:

ftp://ftp.unicauca.edu.co/Documentos_Publicos/Facultades/FIET/DEIC/Materias/Control%20de%20maquinas/Charlas/005-estimacion%20de%20parametros/EstimParam/induuction%20motor%20test.pdf

or[better]: Google "Modeling induction motors".

I know there is a company called Amatrol that has simulators for all kinds of training. They have online multimedia and also training equipment that has troubleshooting software. I have provided a link below and you can inquire about it if it fits your needs. Good luck!
