Fixed Center of Gravity for an Object Which Changes its Weight

09/28/2013 7:12 AM

lets say a body of mass M and it has center of gravity at point C

Now when i change its mass to M2, the center of gravity changes to C2

the question is, to maintain the center of gravity for change in mass, what kind of steps can be done?

Surely it's obvious from the definition of the centre of gravity, if not intuitively?

How does one violate the Conservation of Mass?

Let's pretend you have a fish tank that has no appreciable mass. You fill the tank with water and note the system mass and CoG.

Now, you fill the tank with lead (take out the water, first). CoG is the same, but the mass is different.

All you need to do is distribute the new mass exactly as the old mass was distributed.

Was that too hard?

He's going to find himself falling over if he doesn't do his own homework.

Tips for Posting on CR4:

  • Look for answers before you post. Search CR4 or use a search engine to see if you can find the answer to your question.
  • Do your own homework. CR4 is not a homework cheat site; however, if you have questions about understanding concepts or how a portion of a problem is derived, these types of questions will be accepted.

Is this object L shaped? Isn't the homework overdue by now????

How does it change its weight?

If by increasing its density, but keeping the same size and shape, no change in CG.

If by adding other weight(s), it depends on their location w.r.t. the original body. In that case, recalculate using normal CG formula.
