Government Shutdown

09/30/2013 1:00 PM

I find this baffling, I never noticed that they went to work for us just yet.

Regardless of any of this, there will be millions more squandered on shut-down/start-up, when this happens.

You can thank all the spoiled brats that we have elected for this. They will bankrupt the country just to prove who is right.

In the end, we will have Obamacare, and it may, or may not work. The country may go to blazes thanks to the idiots running it before it ever has a chance to succeed or fail.

They should all be lined up against a wall and shot.

I am not blaming the elected officials. I blame the voters (and non-voters) for this.

As it has been said, the penalty for not participating in politics is to be ruled by your inferiors.

Holder announced today, that he is suing NC for our voter ID law that was passed.

My federal tax dollars will be used for Holder's prosecution, and my state tax dollars will be used for the defense.

Here's a little nugget for the conspiracy buffs.

well its not the first time..........

what is disappointing is the amount of overtime required..... or at least paid out to catch up....

If I remember correctly when the government shut down back in the 90's under Clinton....... and after everything was settle where the government started up again. did the federal employees still receive a paycheck for the time off?

There's no such thing as a government shutdown. It's a term that has been coined to induce panic in the population, with the president attacking the most vulnerable to make his political point...which is, "Don't mess with me".

Obama: "Fear, we need more fear to get what we want"

Advisors: "we're running low on fear sir, we used most of what we had on your Red Line thing......"

He should of listened to this guy

Frankly, on a serious note...... what has been coming out of Washington, I put very little weight to it.

Thank Timmy Geithner. I didn't come up with it.

He meant it exactly as he said it, too. People can be scared into supporting things they don't want.

I've never been more scared, (of government), in my life.

If they can force us to purchase healthcare insurance, they can force us to buy anything...including tuneups for our cars.

Between the NSA stuff and this, which will be enforced by the IRS, the government will know the smallest details of our lives.

Tell that to the 800,000 federal workers who will be laid off, at a cost of millions, if not billions!!!

Tell it to the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan who will not get paid next month and to their families who are on food stamps that will disappear as well.

The traitors in Congress will still get their bloated paychecks, and FREE HEALTH CARE, so the rest of us can go to hell for all they care.

Don't tell me it doesn't matter, because IT DOES.

The fools had rather see anarchy than sanity.

It's working!

Now they are saying that if we don't implement the healthcare mess, the entire economy will shut down.

I just heard a news blurb. The impacted areas of government, will be things like passports and green card applications. If the troops aren't paid, that will be a move that will have to be ordered by the president himself...although, it wouldn't surprise me.

Hopefully it resolved before the next white house Easter egg hunt.

Here's what you, and many others do not understand.

Obamacare is a policy passed by both houses of Congress 3 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Using this childish self serving approach to de-funding it is unethical and goes against all that is honest and good about the country.

They should BE TWO SEPERATE ISSUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm really gone now, you guys continue to delude yourselves all you want...

My pulse rate is getting dangerously high.

Yep, and we voted a bunch of them out, because of it.

There's no getting around it. I don't think admin cares if we discuss this, as long as we don't get into personal attacks.

Re: Government shutdown

09/30/2013 3:46 PM

There is nothing unethical about this. Both parties have withheld budget approval in the past, to try to prevent what they perceived as a disaster. The precedence goes back a long time.

Frankly, I question the ethics of the (very well paid) congress members and their staff who have accepted a subsidy ("because it's so expensive!") that the regular citizens are not entitled to get. And then THEY complain about de-funding it, or delaying its implementation for a year or two until the bugs get worked out? That's insulting to the taxpayers.

As for 'this was passed by both houses of congress 3 years ago'; well, so what? Bad bills have been repealed many times before. Look at Prohibition - they even amended the Constitution for that, and managed to repeal it.

There are other ways to fix the insurance system than this bill. (And please disabuse yourself of any notion you may have that this is a health care bill. It does nothing to fix health care. It's purpose is to reform the insurance industry. It doesn't address any real health care issues aside from coverage, and it does that very poorly.)

Let's get something straight here...

The house bill funded every single aspect of government, except the ACA.

The president and senate democrats are threatening to hurt innocent people, by shutting down government, if it doesn't go through.

In the real world, this is called extortion, and people go to jail for it.

Re: Government shutdown

09/30/2013 4:18 PM

Which causes more damage to the country, a short term shutdown, or full implementation...tomorrow?

Congress is subsidized, big corporations have been excused for a year, unions will likely be exempt....

These were all changes that were personally made by Obama, after the law was passed. This is both illegal and against the constitution.

A president is not allowed to tweak laws after they are passed, to help out his allies.

That alone should have nixed the entire thing.
