Cream Separator Shoot Issue

11/12/2013 12:03 PM

We are currently having an issue with our cream separator shooting. All of our "experts" are telling us that the program is correct and it looks mechanically sound. However, it is plugging repeatedly and will not shoot at all. Does anyone have any advice on what we need to be looking at to get this issue resolved?

Look at what's plugging it, and trace it back to whatever is allowing it to happen.

If it's plugging up, it's either because of a substance that shouldn't be there, or a lack of pressure pushing it through.

That's about the best you're gonna get from your question.

Did any of your "experts" contact the manufacturer?

More detail is needed, as this is not a cream separator forum.

Could be a process procedural issue. I've seen a lot of this happening..... And who are the experts..... Chemical rep? Equipment rep?

Sounds like the temperature is too cool, what temperature is your cream at....The bowl in most cases must be flushed with hot water to warm the equipment up to operating temperature, and to start with a clean surface....

I was gonna say approximately the same thing. Sounds like your processing area and the feed are too cold, just a guess. I hope the cream has not already been soured into butter.

Are you using any sulfates (calcium) (if you are, hopefully your not using powder) to standardize your milk? Or any other additives prior to your separator.

Also how thick is the cream (butterfat)?

And the brand name of the separator?...DeLaval (Alfa Laval)

I would check the milk temperature. Most feed down the center. The heaver skim milk(water) is spun out. The butter fat(cream) which is lighter stays in the center and rises to the top. The butter fat could be solidifying causing your plugging.

Thank you very much for all of your comments. I do not currently have all the answers to your questions. As soon as I can answer them all, I will respond to them individually. Again, I very much appreciate your help.
