Mill Life Cycle

11/18/2013 8:50 AM

Does Anyone knows how long does a mill / pulverizer life cycle normally last based on best practices?

Thanks before.

Yes. The equipment manufacturer does, because there are original equipment sell dates, spare parts ordering dates, maintenance service visit dates and replacement equipment sell dates in its records for each and every customer.

<sigh>

Sorry I meant vertical spindle Coal Pulverizers in a steam power plant. Based on best practices, how long is the estimated life span? 10-15 years? Because the manual does not state how long is the recommended use before it is disposed of.

best regards,

That's because the manual cannot tell how the end user will maintain the equipment.

If the end user is diligent about PM and following the manual of maintenance and operation provided by the manufacturer, the equipment will last for many years.

If, on the other hand, the end user is like most who would ask such a question, the equipment will likely be used beyond its design limits, outside the operating window for PM, and generally abused by the end user who will them blame the manufacturer for selling defective equipment.

I suggest that you consult with a number of users of equipment you may be thinking of purchasing, as well as the manufacturers of said equipment. If you are honest about your intended "best practices" you should have good luck with the equipment.

Between 10,000 and 10,000,000 cycles. Mileage may vary based on various factors.

This is an odd question.

It's the type of question that is normally and routinely asked and answered prior to any capital investment.

Why do you ask? Do you have a unit that is showing signs of (premature?) dilapidation and the bean counters are busting your nads over why it hasn't lasted longer?

Based on worst practices, the warranty expires in 21 days or 3 weeks, whichever comes first.

Any equipment if well designed and well maintained will last for 75 years minimum. In my building there was elevator which lasted for 70 years, we recently replaced it with new, because technology had changed and it was inefficient when compared to new technology. As far as claiming depreciation is to be considered its life can be based as 10-15 years.

I am surprised you did not get more votes for GA. Your PDF allows for a reasonable estimate of number of operating hours for roll wear.
