How to design a capacitor panel for an LT distribution substation of transformer capacity 500kva and a connected load of 615 kw and maximu demand of 415 kva
The major load is a water cooled chiller of 100tr x 2nos
Two main approaches are:
1) Provide individual capacitor sets for each "larger" motor, switched on by the motor starters. Ignore the "smaller" motors.
2) Assess the total PF, and switch in appropriate combinations of capacitors with VAR ratings in power-of-two ratios (e.g., 1:2, 1:2:4, 1:2:4:8).

The assessment for a compensation of 25 kvar was made for the hvac equipments as per the hvac load details and pf requirements. Just would like to know the step by procedures for th design of apfcr for a new building. I have read that for trnsformers lvar compensation is 2% per kva
...and the way to do it is to discuss the problem with a capacitor panel design company, and get them to design it and install it.
