How to Test Earth Pit Resistance On Operator Site?

12/01/2013 11:41 PM

Hi,

Is there any device to test earth pit resistance on site?

there are 3 earth pits, 1 - grounding, 2 - neutral, 3 - lightning.

if it is possible, we would like to put a device to read resistance all the time. I know that at now engineer is going to site once in 3-4 months to test resistance, which is not so effective.

We have on site controller which controls many devices, we could connect to that resistance reader device.

Yes.

A practical guide to earth resistance testing

Indian Standard code for electrical earth pit

I'd advise you to check with your eigineer. Sometimes a good pair of eyes are also needed.

You are right, sometimes better that engineer check it on place.

BUT, as i said initially engineer is visiting site once in 3-4 months.. and mostly day before that FLM team which is looking after that site just putting water into "Earth Pits", so that it will show less resistance. And as yo understand, water will go off after several days and resistance is getting higher than required.

That is why we are looking for a solution to automate it.

British Standard 7671 and various Electricity at Work Regulations require UK installations to be inspected and tested at regular intervals depending on circumstances. Testing continuously is not a requirement here.
