A good candidate for PlbMak's long-lost and well-loved Friday afternoon picture quizzes?

Brave Sir Robin:

Was the AN/FLR-9 also called a Wullen-Weber, or, to us in the USNavy, an Elephant Cage? Official (non-nomenclature) name for it was a Circularly Disposed Antenna Array, or CDAA?

It looks like the ones I used to work inside of, inside of a huge building, most of it underground.

Thanks. Never knew the nomenclature for it, but spent 9 years inside of them at the sites I was assigned to. Lovely monsters, but don't stand up to Super Typhoons too well.

Those don't ring a bell, but if they are sites, Guam and Japan, US Navy. If they are block codes, I was in from 1973 to 1982, and that might give some hint, with the locations, of what blocks they might have been.

I worked on the smaller systems that used their signals to do our work.

Those were Army MOS codes for morse and non-morse intercept. Sounds like your dates were outside of my associations with those in that line of work. But what the 'ell, does the name Don Randall ring a bell? He might have been old enough to have been at the FS in the early 80's. I was a SigO with the 902d in SF, CA from the mid to late 80's working with the ASA types on other things.

Cheers !

Ah. I was USNavy, CTM (Mat Rat) with crypto and several other things.

Don Randall doesn't ring any bells, but I never knew any army cryppies at all, except the ones with whom I took my training in 73, at Fort Monmouth.

And I don't remember any names, at all. That was a 2 year blur of training at 6 or 7 different places/schools.

Sorry about that.
